Beer Tasting Guide

So you want to sample beer and need to know what to look for in terms of flavor and taste. Well thanks to the work done by Morten Meilgaard in the 1970’s it’s as easy as reviewing the image below during your tasting process.  We have also provided a printable page for sampling notes.  Descriptions of the categories can be found below.

Appearance – Is it clear, cloudy or opaque?  What color is it?  How does the head look?
Aroma – Use the chart to help determine the aroma of the beer.
Mouthfeel – The texture of the beer.  Is it dense, heavy, smooth, wet, dry, creamy, etc.
Flavor Use the chart to help determine the flavor of the beer.
Aftertaste – What is the flavor left in your mouth a minute or so after drinking the beer.
